That same URL allows you to monitor the printer's status.
| Queue Name | Description |
|---|---|
| set-codonics | This will take a text file of user settings, for example a file that has one line GAMMA 3 will change the your individual settings to have a GAMMA of 3, making images lighter for you only. Note that you must never use lowercase letters or the printer will ignore them. This is the only permitted way to change settings. DO NOT CHANGE the printer settings on the printer LCD panel. That will adversely affect others. |
| scaled | This will take any image and scale it to fit a page, rotating it if necessary. |
| unscaled | This will print the image at whatever size and orientation defined in the image file. This is useful for Postscript if you have 1" margins; otherwise use scaled. |
| bracket | Gives 2 pages of thumbnails, with various values of gamma, contrast and TCR, to allow you to tune the image settings. Use of this queue is strongly recommended the first time you use the printer, and anytime you get a print you don't like (e.g. too dark). |
| 6up | Prints 6 images on one page, 2 columns 3 rows |
| 20up | Prints 20 images on one page, 4 columns 5 rows |
| slides | Prints 24 images, at 35 mm film size. A quick and easy way to get slides, not as clean as the old fashioned way (using a camera). |
The printer hardware has 1 inch margins on top and bottom. To print a sheet with ½ inch margins, you need to use the 8×12 inch sheets.
Please see the vizlab manager if you have any questions about the printer. It costs $2-3/page of output, so before wasting time and money making many test prints, please ask me any questions you might have. You or the faculty member who sponsored your account may end up paying for your printouts. To print, log onto viz and type lpr -Pqueue file.ps, where "queue" stands for one of the queue names listed above. The file does not have to be postscript, but it must be something recognizable by any2any, which includes most common formats (e.g. tiff, jpeg, gif).
