UCSC Scientific Visualization Laboratory Hardware
Currently in the Vizlab are:
Viz- Onyx 2, Infinite Reality 2 Graphics, 4 Gb
of RAM, 90 Gb Hard disk, 8 processor 195 Mhz R10000
32 kb primary, 4 Mb secondary caches
Wiz (DOWN)- A Pentium II 333, running Windows NT. 128 Mb Ram, 4 Gb disk.
Color printers in the UCSC Scientific Visualization Lab
For each of these, you can print postscript using
lpr -Pname file.ps. In some cases, other formats may also
work. The printer names are listed below.
- cheap (DOWN)
- Epson Stylus 850 InkJet color printer, currently free. Quality is
not very good.
- scaled
- A very sophisticated high quality Codonics dye-sublimation
printer. This printer has several queues which utilize different
features of the printer.
- Prints various image formats (ps,jpeg,gif,tiff,rgb)
- Prints slides
- Prints high (nearly photographic) quality output.
- Can print various numbers of images per page, e.g. 3x4
- Expensive to use ($2-$3/page), so make sure whoever sponsored your
account is aware of potential recharges
- Prints 8½×11 or 8½×14 (with 1 inch margins
on top and bottom)
- as252-wide
- A very high quality HP DesignJet wide-format printer.
- Prints color postscript up to 3'×9' (yes, that's feet)
- Very expensive to print; a 3×4 poster costs around $10
- No one gets it right the first time. Click above for help.
Other printers may be made accessible with the cooperation of their
administrators.
