Accounts are granted to all UCSC Natural Sciences and Engineering faculty, and to students, staff, and colleagues they wish to sponsor. Other UCSC faculty with Visualization needs may also get accounts and sponsor accounts. Faculty are their own sponsors on the application form (do not leave `sponsor' blank).
Here is the application form for a full account. The `printing-only' account is obsolete. printing-only account
There is a separate application form for account renewals.
In almost all cases, you will need a keycode from the School of Engineering. That's from facilities, who are moving around; see current details below. They also require a faculty sponsor for students and others. (facilities@cse.ucsc.edu)
Printing-only accounts are suspended. Ignore this paragraph. For a printing-only account, you print from another machine on campus, not from viz. This requires some cooperation from your system administrator. Note that printing on the wide-format printer is not trivial and requires visual and physical access to the printer. For this reason, printing from off-campus will not be allowed.
Due to substantial abuse, account requests for a poster needed "today" will not be honored. Most likely, you are not the only one with an impending deadline. Allow at least one full day if you are experienced, or several days if you are not. Labelling the project as an "emergency" will not change this.
Keycode details:
Here is a brief set of directions for finding the SoE facilities office
Baskin Engineering Building. People who require access
codes to the viz lab will need to pick them up in person. Pass
these directions out to all who need them.
SoE Facilities is located in the basement of the Baskin Engineering building,
room 057.
Keys and codes are issued in room 057. Hours are 1 to
3 every day.
Nonfunctional keycodes:
Due to equipment failure many keycodes were lost from the OmniLock to 252.
Facilities tried to restore them, but missed some.
If you have been issued a keycode and think it should still be valid
(i.e., it was not temporary for a specific class), please email
facilities@soe.ucsc.edu and cc
vizlab-manager@soe.ucsc.edu because they want
us to authorize it.
Do NOT state your old keycode, just your identity,
and that it is for room 252.
On the other hand, keycodes for room 228, the intermediate room before
252 are regularly purged and if yours is gone you will need to get
a fresh one.
They need authorization from vizlab-manager in this case too, so send
an email as mentioned above before making your visit to their office.
